The Puroast story begins while I’m sitting on a Venezuelan coffee farm one morning and I’m served a cup of coffee by my host. The same fellow who grew, roasted and brewed the beans. The taste was unlike any coffee I had ever had. Savory, rich and very smooth. No bitterness. I assumed this great taste was because I was on a coffee farm, like drinking wine in a vineyard. It turns out the secret to this flavor was how heat was used in roasting. I knew then that I wanted to learn how to create a coffee that is pure to the art of roasting. Puroast Coffee. After a long journey, we found the right flavor and Puroast Coffee was born. So my brother and I start selling Puroast in local stores in California, people loved the taste and then we find out there’s a lot more to the story. Mixed in with the compliments about taste, we received comments telling us Puroast Coffee didn’t upset customers’ stomachs or aggravate their heartburn. There were so many of these comments that we decided to find out if there was something different about Puroast which would be a significant benefit. We discovered there was a big difference in Puroast. Not only does our roasting recipe make for a smoother taste, it also greatly reduces the acid in the coffee by more than 70% compared to leading brands. 70% less acid than other coffees! This isn’t just me saying this, it’s Dr. Shibamoto and scientific research team from the University of California/Davis. Dr. Shibamoto found that in reducing acid levels, our roasting process dramatically increased the amount of antioxidants. And by dramatic I mean by 5 times more than other leading coffees and 7 times more than green tea. 7 times more antioxidants than green tea! The flavor, smell, look, and no after taste of this coffee reminded me of the stuff I used to get at the "India Coffee House" in Bangalore, India, in the sixties. The aroma and flavor is definitely "old world" in that it is genuine, high quality coffee and not one of those flavored disasters so common today. It is not too strong and definitely does not have an after-taste that is the trademark of mixed bean coffees.This would make a great first-cup in the morning coffee. I tried it both ways - one cup with cream and one without and both were delicious. I also tried it with a piece of Ghiradelli dark chocolate squares and the result was 'passed with Distinction'. The only factor going against this product is its cost. At around $9.00 a pound it will probably be prohibitive for most household budgets.

A popular t-shirt reads, "Coffee isn't a drug, it's a vitamin!" And like all vitamins, it's had benefits and side effects for the thousands of years it's been morning's drink of choice. A recent article in Canada's Globe and Mail suggests drinking enough coffee fends off type 2 diabetes, heart disease, asthma, gallstones, Parkinson's disease, and liver cancer. The article continues, saying coffee may even protect some women from breast cancer.But a later article in the same publication warns, "If you have heartburn or reflux disease (GERD) you should limit or avoid (coffee)....both regular and decaffeinated - (It) relaxes the muscle that keeps stomach acid from rising into the esophagus and throat. Coffee also stimulates acid secretion in the stomach."Puroast Low Acid Coffee is no bitter pill to swallow for anyone wanting coffee's benefits without its burn. It's Dark French Roast blend, brewed on a Sunday morning, was rounded and flavorful with a slightly nutty aftertaste, not at all harsh. It's obvious audience is those suffering from acid reflux or other upset stomach ailments. Yet anyone wanting a good cup of coffee will appreciate its taste.Satirist Alexander Pope praised coffee "which makes the politician wise/And see through all things with his half-shut eyes." Goodness knows that profession provides heartburn enough without daily coffee worsening it! Puroast provides a dark, rounded cup of coffee with savory taste and the caffeine buzz many need, without the acrid aftertaste some coffees leave behind. Recommended.

I wanted to like this..maybe its because I can drink regular coffeewithout the nasty side effects of acid problems, that this did nottaste so good to me. I love dark roast coffees but this one reallywas not what I had hoped for. It was odd tasting to me, more bitterthan other dark french roasts are. I usually drink my coffee black,but even the addition of 1/2-n-1/2 didn't help save the rest of thepot from being poured down the sink. I gave it two stars as I alsoknow that taste is like art...subjective.
